Happy Birthday Bob Marley

Bob Marley was born February 6th, 1945 to an 18 year old mother, Cedella Marley. He was raised in the rural community Nine Miles. Robert Nesta Marley grow up in a time of revolution and change all over the world. In the late teens in the early 60s reggae and ska was just beginning to form and young Bob was listening. Against better judgment from his mother Bob didnt choose a life of service to physical labor or a skill, he chose a life of service as a musician. He grabbed a hold of music at a young age and never let go. Bob Marley has influenced millions of people all over the world and continues to do so.

Bob Marley spread a message of peace and unity that has brought the world together every time his music is played. For me, Bob Marley was the most important influence in my life. Ill never forget the first album I had, it was one of the first I actually picked out myself. Everyday I would come home from school and listen to it on my Fischer Price record player, its was brown and I could carry it around. I loved that thing. I remember as a youth in private catholic grammer school i convinced my teacher in 4th grade to let me play Bob Marley during class because he spoke about God. His music always spoke to me, it was the clearest and the loudest and it always made me want to be better. Throughout the years I discovered a whole world of music, Led Zepplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Pink Floyd, Oh man…Pink Floyd! High school produced The Grateful Dead, RFK 94…legendary. Summer after graduation and it was epic. Capital Ballroom, The Edge, Sunday Mass, and Traxx. Then it was off to California for some String Cheese and Phish, what a combo it twas.

I spent most of my adult life travelling to see music, be around music and experience music and the entire time the only one that never left the deck is Bob. I grew up fast, always had to do things on my own terms and on my own time. Bob was my mentor. Bob was my best friend. Bob was my shoulder to cry on. Every time I listen to Bob I hear a new message, a new perspective and a new hope to push me through to the next day. Ten years ago I started One Love in honor of Bob Marley and everything his music and message taught me. I’ve been so moved by what he has given me and given the world that all I could ever hope to do is give some of that back. I’ve spent most of my adult life in pain, as much of it as I can remember. Several surgeries later I have found myself looking for something that was bigger than me, something I could believe in I found it in Bob. I believe that one person can make a difference and spreading positivity is the most important thing any of us can do. I believe everyone deserves to be happy and Bob is my inspiration.

I have devoted the last 3 years of my life to One Love Massive because I believe we all need more love in our lives. Bob’s message was One Love, One Heart, One Destiny and that is the backbone of OLM. We believe that working together to spread positivity can truly change the world and we think music is the answer. Thank you for all your support, thank you Bob Marley for inspiring so many of us out there. Every single day there is someone listening to Bob for the first time and his words havent lost a single bit of power or presence since the day he left us. In a world filled with so much war, so much pain and so much suffering there is a great need for hope so our goal is to spread the love and Bob Marley is the inspiration.

Happy Birthday Robert Nesta Marley, we love and miss you.
