D.C. Mayor For Life: Marion Barry Statue To Be Revealed This March

It’s been four years since we lost D.C. mayor and icon Marion Barry, who passed on at 78. Now, the city will finally honor him with his own statue — a $300,000, 8 ft. tall structure that will sit outside the John A. Wilson Building. This is all thanks to the Executive Office of the Mayor, the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the Marion Barry Commission. Maryland artist Steven Weitzman is the statue’s creator.

The statue will officially be unveiled on Saturday, March 3rd at 11:30am….Mayor Muriel Bowser and D.C. Council Chairman Phil Mendelson will be manning the commemoration.

Now, what will the statue look like? Check out some teaser pics from the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities below (click to enlarge):

Rest in peace to one of the greatest to ever do it for the District (as well as Chris Barry!).
