PEX 2012

What an amazing event!

On super short notice One Love Massive was lucky enough to get a press pass to cover this year’s festival and I can honestly say my time at PEX this year was truly memorable. It was my first year but will not be my last. I have already talked to the staff and we will be there next year as campers and to help spread the good word.

PEX is an amazing production. It must takes hundreds of people to make something happen so smoothly. Every camp was well attended and sounded great! So many incredible djs, so many happy campers, so much to do in such little time. After glancing at the line ups I realized I would just have to keep moving to catch even a fraction. After weathering a rough storm on Friday night the campers were ready to have some fun and you could feel the energy everyone was generating. The heat didnt stop anyone from having fun.

One of my favorite parts was the burn, it was so raw and beautiful. The band playing during the burn was some of the best music I have ever heard, I hope to hear them again soon. Belting out powerful lyrics and melodies while the dancers moved and shook to the beat the burn vibe grew like wildfire. Everyone had gathered around the area and you could feel the excitement in the air. The staff had the area completely secure but were still very friendly and nice to everyone involved. Even the local firemen could be seen moving around to the music, it was a beautiful thing. Watching the crowd light up from both the entertainment and the burn itself was incredible, like nothing I have seen on this coast.

Being at PEX reminded me of why I started OLM, why I am here today and what shaped my connection to music. All of my major influences in music took place at large gatherings like festivals like this. There is no feeling that can replace the vibe you feel at a good music festival. So many people in one place being kind to one another, looking out for one another and truly enjoying the company. Music can free you, make you feel connected and happy and what better way than to experience that with others. I want to thank PEX for reminding me of the pure energy felt at events like this. While I came up in this circuit this generation of music makers, production teams and creative boards are doing it better than I have ever seen. What a great job, thank you all for working so hard to make PEX so great. Cheers!
