Los Rakas @ Love Friday September 28th!
Oakland-via-Panama act Los Rakas are fast becoming one of the faces of new Latin music thanks to their fusion of hip-hop, plena, reggae and dancehall sung in both Spanish and English.
The act recently worked with Diplo and E-40 and will perform in October alongside Major Lazer and the Black Keys at Mexico City’s Corona Capital Festival. They were kind enough to give us an mp3 download of their song “Bien Ribetiao,” off the Raka Rich mixtape El Flow Californiano for our listening pleasure.”‘Bien Ribetiao’ means ‘swaggin,’” says Raka Rich. “It’s a Panamanian slang word.”"The beat is a style of hip-hop originally from Oakland, California. Songs like Drake’s ‘The Motto’ and Tyga’s Rack City,’ which have been popular over the last year at a mainstream level, are drawn from a Bay Area-sound. One example is E-40′s ‘Tell Me Where to Go’ from 2005. This style has never been done in Spanish, so we wanted to do it really well and visually have it rep all our styles being born in Panama and raised in The Bay.”
