Dallas Green’s words pierce my heart “like knives”…. It’s a perfect day in Virginia Beach. I’m sitting with my toes in the Atlantic Ocean and Little Hell is rolling. Last night I had the honor of photographing City and Colour at the NorVa in the heart of downtown Norfolk, VA. I can honestly say that this was the best show I have ever seen hands down! Everything I have ever heard about this live experience was completely and utterly true. Green sings from the depths of his soul. His angelic voice and soulful harmonies send me in a euphoric trance that leaves my mind and body feeling FREE from all of lifes stresses. The Lyrics he writes are like NO OTHER, even with his sad songs one can’t help but feel joy and bliss. His music has carried me through some of the darkest times of my life, when sh*t got rough and I had no one to turn to I could always count on Dallas to bring me back to where I needed to be. His performance was a journey of raw, heart-felt acoustics and heavy hitting folk rock sounds that left everyone in the room speechless. A City and Colour show is a broken heart’s peace and quiet, and a true fan’s heaven on earth, pure bliss and relief an experience unparalleled. Green once said in an interview  “my main fear is pride”, which he is embarrassed by, and seems to be a trend among artists of his likeness but he loves what he does more than anything and wouldn’t change it for the world. Dallas also stated that he writes songs selfishly about himself, and his personal feelings, so that we can apply it to our personal lives which causes Dallas to connect with his audience on a deeper more intimate level, he sure as hell gets me every time. He continued to mention how it was his goal since the age of 14 to write songs to make people – just be moved in a way that you can’t even explain. Their music has the ability to make a person feel that their darkness and pain is shared, and helps to release the feeling of loneliness off of ones shoulders. I can’t help but share with the world how cathartic this experience was for me, There is a primal raw energy in their songs, from the pain of lost love to the things that rip one apart inside. Waiting, Sleeping Sickness, and Lover Come Back all exemplify a man’s heavy heart, that are honest not contrived, and a reflection of true life experiences.
