1. Frito-Lay has recalled jalapeño flavored chips over a scare related to salmonella. The manufacturer’s supplier recently recalled their seasoning blend and, despite the fact that no salmonella was found in the seasoning supplied to them, Frito-Lay decided to pull the chips “out of an abundance of caution.” Thoughts on Frito-Lay’s recent recall of jalapeño flavored chips.

2. Gwyneth Paltrow, the health guru nobody has ever claimed we needed, has announced a conference this summer in L.A. In Goop Health will feature crystal therapy, aura photography, sound baths, and a hall featuring some of the finest health eats that the LA and NYC areas have to offer. Thoughts on spending anywhere between 500 and 1500 dollars to chill with Gwyneth Paltrow and her crazy friends.

3. Starbucks made headlines this past week after the introduction of the Unicorn frappucino: a blended beverage following a slew of recent trends involving rainbow iterations of various food and drink. Not one to ever not share his opinion, Anthony Bourdain called the latest Starbucks beverage “the perfect nexus of awfulness.” Thoughts on Starbucks’ Unicorn Frappucino.

4. The Human Research Council just published a study analyzing the diets of 11,000 veg participants and discovered that 84% of non-meat eaters eventually revert back to introducing meat into their diets. Thoughts on the vast majority of vegans and vegetarians switching back to eating meat.

5. IKEA announced that stand alone IKEA cafes could be in the works. In an interview with Fast Company, Ikea Food’s managing director Michael La Cour acknowledged the popularity of the chain’s cafeteria stating he “firmly believes there is potential.” Thoughts on stand alone IKEA cafes.

With unicorn inspired foods being all the rage, now in the news with Starbucks’ Unicorn Frappacino, it looks like people can’t seem to get enough of tie-dyed treats. Whether its a rainbow bagel or cream cheese, we’re not sure if it makes your poop colorful, but we do know people like consuming something imaginative and uplifting. For this week’s pantry, we’re going to list our top three foods that we want to see rainbow or unicornified.

EAT OF THE WEEK

Kentucky Fried Chicken has finally brought its internationally renowned Zinger sandwich stateside. A spicy chicken sandwich on a sesame seed bun, the sandwich has become a popular item abroad, but has never seen the light of day in the U.S. Is it a miracle of fried chicken goodness?
